Obsidian Daily Notes: Set Up Templates and Task Lists

Enable Daily notes in Obsidian's core plugins. Under Settings → Daily notes, choose a date format and new file location, then select a note under Template file location to reuse its headings each day. A template with a Tasks heading and a Markdown checkbox gives you a daily task list; the TaskForge setup below adds mobile capture to that file.

   Configure Your Daily Note Format

   Connect TaskForge to your Obsidian vault folder. Use your existing vault sync service to make the same files available on each device. Changes appear elsewhere after that service syncs; on iOS, Obsidian Sync may require opening Obsidian. Open Settings → Vault & Storage → Daily Notes Format. Enter your daily note format using moment.js-style tokens:

   YYYY-MM-DD → 2025-11-07

   YYYY/MM/DD → 2025/11/07

   MMM DD, YYYY → Nov 07, 2025

   YYYY-[W]WW → 2025-W45

   Set New Tasks Header (Optional)

   In Vault & Storage, configure the "New Tasks Header" field. This is the markdown header under which new tasks will be added:

   ## Tasks

   ## To-Do

   ### Daily Tasks

   If the header doesn't exist in your daily note, TaskForge will create it automatically when adding the first task.

   Enable Daily Note as Default Location

   You can enable daily note writing at two levels:

   • • App-level: Settings → Task Defaults → "Use Daily Note as Default" - applies to all new tasks
   • • Per Space: Edit a Space → Default Values → "Use Daily Note as Default" - applies only to tasks created from that list

   Create Tasks

   When you create a new task with daily note writing enabled, TaskForge automatically writes it to today's daily note file under your configured header. The daily note file is created if it doesn't exist yet.

TaskForge's notification system covers daily note tasks too. Set up notifications to remind you about tasks in your daily note at specific times throughout the day.
