Find broken note links

Shipped in version 3.0.0

Renaming or deleting a file outside TaskForge (say, from Finder, Obsidian, or a sync client on another device) can leave other notes and tasks pointing at something that no longer exists. TaskForge now has a scan that finds every one of these dangling references so you can fix them, instead of only discovering them the next time you click a link that goes nowhere.

Where to find it

Open Settings, then Notes, and tap Broken links.

What it checks

The scan looks at three kinds of references across every note and task in your workspace:

  • dependsOn: a task that depends on another task or note that's gone.
  • Projects: a task or note linked to a project file that's gone.
  • Body links: any [[wikilink]] or [text](file.md) link written inside a note or task's own text.

For each one it finds, the screen shows the exact reference text, what kind of link it is (wikilink, markdown link, file path, or filename), and where it lives: the field it's in, or the line number if it's in a note's body.

Fixing what it finds

Results are grouped by the file the broken reference is in. Tap any row to open that file. A note opens in the note viewer, and a task opens in task detail, so you can edit the reference or remove it.

The scan doesn't rewrite anything automatically. Renames and moves you make inside TaskForge already update every reference for you; this screen exists for the case a file changed somewhere TaskForge couldn't see.

Re-scanning

The scan runs once when you open the screen and doesn't run in the background. After you've fixed a reference (or renamed/moved files outside the app again), tap the re-scan button in the top bar to check again.

Platform differences

None. The scan and the fixes it lets you jump to work the same way on every platform.
