A calmer agenda: overdue & pending summary cards

Shipped in version 2.7.0

The calendar's agenda view is built for two things: moving between days and seeing, at a glance, what each day holds. But on a busy vault, "today" can carry a huge backlog: every overdue task and every task whose scheduled or start date has slipped into the past gets carried forward onto today. Dumping all of those into the day inline turns "today" into a wall you have to scroll past just to reach tomorrow, and on very large vaults it could even make the calendar slow to open.

TaskForge now handles that backlog the way Apple Calendar and Google Calendar do: a few items inline, and everything else behind a clear summary you can tap.

What you'll see

When you open the agenda and land on today, the overdue and pending carry-forward tasks no longer fill the day. Instead you get up to two compact summary cards at the top of today:

  • ⚠️ N overdue ›: tasks whose due date has passed and that aren't done yet.
  • 🕓 N pending ›: tasks whose scheduled or start date has passed and that aren't done yet.

The number is the real total, however large. Tap a card and TaskForge opens a dedicated, scrollable list of exactly those tasks (built to handle thousands of them smoothly) so you can triage the backlog in one place instead of wading through it on the day view.

Today's own work (tasks actually due, scheduled, or starting today) still shows inline, right where you expect it.

A day with a lot of its own tasks

If a single day genuinely has a large number of its own tasks, the agenda shows the first 20 and then a "+N more →" row. Tap it to open the full list for that day. This keeps each day glanceable while still letting you see everything.

Why this is better

  • The agenda stays navigable. Today is your day's plan, not a backlog dump; scrolling to tomorrow is one short flick away.
  • Nothing is hidden. The counts are exact, and every "see all" list shows the complete set; the cards are a shortcut, never a cap on what you can reach.
  • It stays fast. Large vaults open the calendar quickly because the day no longer tries to draw thousands of rows at once.

Where it applies

  • This is an agenda-view refinement. The month, week, and day grids already summarize each day compactly (a few dots or chips), so they're unchanged; overdue work still shows folded onto today there.
  • The summary cards and the "+N more" row respect your current calendar filters: the lists you've selected, your status filter, and your overdue / pending toggles. The "see all" list shows the same set of tasks the count describes.

Settings

There's nothing new to turn on. The existing calendar filter controls still apply:

  • Show overdue tasks and Show pending tasks decide whether the overdue / pending summary cards appear at all.
  • Your selected lists and status filter scope which tasks are counted and shown.

Switching vaults

As part of this work, switching your active vault now refreshes the calendar immediately: the calendar always reflects the vault you're currently in, without needing to restart the app.
