Creating from the calendar: task by default, event when you drag
Shipped in version 3.0.0
If you have calendar events turned on (a premium feature, under Settings → Calendar events), the calendar lets you create two kinds of things: a task (saved into your workspace) and an event (saved to your device's calendar, alongside attendees, reminders, and the like).
What the calendar grid does
Tap an empty time slot, or tap a day in month view, and TaskForge opens a quick-create dialog set to Task, with that date already attached.
Press and drag across a stretch of time on the day or week grid instead, and the same dialog opens set to Event, with your dragged start and end time already filled in. A tap gives you a task with a date attached; a drag gives you a block of time, which is what an event needs and a plain task doesn't.
The dock and the omnibar
Tap the dock's jump-or-create field while you're looking at the calendar and
the composer opens set to Task, the same as it does from any list. Typing
a time, like team sync at 2pm, doesn't switch it to Event on its own: Event
is a manual choice, made with the small Task/Event toggle in the composer,
not something the text you type decides for you. The field doesn't get an
event-mode head start just because the calendar happens to be open behind it,
either. Flipping the toggle is the only way in.
On Mac, ⌘N is the one shortcut that still favors Event by default here. Press it while the calendar is showing and the omnibar opens already set to Event. Press it while a list is open and you get a Task, as always.
Switching between Task and Event
Wherever you land, there's a small Task / Event switch, two icons, a checkmark for task and a calendar for event, in the quick-create dialog, the omnibar's composer, and the full editor. Tap the other side to flip it, in one tap, before you save. Your typed title and notes carry across when you switch.
Notes
- A free (non-premium) user, or anyone with calendar events turned off, only ever gets a task from any of these; there's nothing to switch to.
- None of this changes anything you've already created. The switch is always one tap away if the default guessed wrong.
