Month view: dots or names
Shipped in version 3.0.0
Open the month view on a phone and every day with something on it gets a row of small dots: blue for an event, a plain dot for a task. That tells you a day is busy. It doesn't tell you what's on it. To find out, you still have to tap in.
In the app
Month view items is a two-option choice: Dots or Names. Pick Names and every day cell draws one-line chips instead, a neutral chip per task and a blue chip per event, truncated with an ellipsis when a title is too long for the cell. If more items exist than fit, the last visible line becomes a "+2 more" chip instead of clipping a chip in half. Tapping the day still opens it the same way it always has.
There is no in-between state. Tasks and events always draw the same way as each other, so you never end up reading a grid where half the day is a title and the other half is a dot.
Dots is the default on a phone, where cells are narrow enough that a full grid of chips can feel cramped. Two places to change it:
- Inside the calendar, tap the view-options glyph in the header and open the Display tab.
- Settings → Calendar & Events → Month view items.
Both drive the same setting, and it follows you across devices along with your other display preferences.
The desktop month view isn't affected either way: it already shows text previews and multi-day event bars, which this setting doesn't touch.
On the home screen
Large and extra-large month widgets show one-line chips automatically, no setting required, sized to however many fit at that widget's height. Medium and small widgets keep dots. At their size a title would be sliced down to two or three letters, which is decoration, not information.
Notes
- Colors follow the same rule everywhere: blue always means "this is an event," never a specific calendar's own color. Tasks are never color-coded by status here.
- This is a display option only. It doesn't change what's stored, what's synced, or what counts as overdue.
