See every file in your notes tree, not just markdown

Shipped in version 3.0.0

The notes tree used to show .md files only. Drop a screenshot, a PDF attachment, or a .csv export into a folder, and it simply didn't appear; TaskForge acted as if the file wasn't there. That made the tree an incomplete picture of what's actually in a folder, and it's why a folder holding only attachments used to vanish from the tree entirely.

Every file now shows up. Non-markdown files render as a dimmed row with a plain file icon, so they read at a glance as "part of the folder, not a note you can edit here."

Opening a file

What tapping a row does depends on the file:

  • Markdown notes open exactly as before, no change.
  • Plain text files (.txt, .csv, .json, .log, .yaml, .yml, .xml) open in a read-only preview: monospace text, no editing, no save. It's for checking a log or a config value without leaving the app.
  • Everything else (images, PDFs, anything else TaskForge doesn't render) shows a message that the file can't be previewed. Nothing opens.

TaskForge never becomes an image viewer or a PDF reader. If you need to open one of those files, do it from Obsidian or your OS file manager.

Where to find it

No setting to turn on. Browse the notes tree on any platform and folders that used to look empty because they held only attachments now show what's actually there.
