Frequently Asked Questions

Do widgets require Premium?

Yes, interactive home screen widgets are a Premium feature. You can try them with a free trial, then unlock permanently with a one-time purchase ($39.99) or subscription ($1.99/month).

How often do widgets update?

Widgets refresh automatically in the background based on your system settings. Changes made in the app or Obsidian appear in widgets within seconds.

Can I have multiple widgets showing different lists?

Yes! Add multiple TaskForge widgets to your home screen and configure each one to display a different Smart List. For example, show 'Today' tasks on one widget and 'Work' tasks on another.

Do widgets work offline?

Yes! Widgets display tasks from your locally synced Obsidian vault and work completely offline. Task completions and additions are saved locally and will sync when you're back online.

Why isn't my widget updating?

If your widget isn't updating, try these steps: 1) Open TaskForge to trigger a refresh, 2) Ensure your vault is properly connected, 3) Remove and re-add the widget. iOS and Android limit background refresh frequency to preserve battery life.

Can I customize widget appearance?

Widgets automatically adapt to your system's light or dark mode. You can configure which list each widget displays, but visual customization (colors, fonts) follows TaskForge's design to maintain consistency and readability.

How Do I Customize Widget Appearance and Behavior?

Each TaskForge widget can be configured independently from the main app settings, giving you fine-grained control over what you see on your home screen.

Independent Widget Configuration

Every widget you place on your home screen has its own settings. One widget can show your Today list grouped by priority while another shows your Work list grouped by status. These configurations are completely independent - changing one widget does not affect any other. This lets you build a home screen dashboard that shows exactly the information you need at a glance.

Grouping Options in Widgets

Widgets support the same grouping options as the main app. You can group tasks by priority, status, tags, or due date directly within the widget display. Priority grouping is especially useful in widgets because it surfaces your most important tasks at the top, so you always see what matters most without scrolling.

Property Visibility Controls

Choose which task properties appear in your widgets. Show or hide due dates, priority indicators, tags, and other metadata depending on how much detail you want. A minimal widget might show just task titles for a clean look, while a detailed widget could include due dates and priority levels for full context.

Widget-Specific Column Ordering

When using grouping in widgets, you can customize the order in which groups appear. Put high-priority tasks at the top or arrange status columns in your preferred workflow order. This ordering is saved per widget, so your carefully arranged layout persists across widget refreshes and device restarts.

Can I Use TaskForge Widgets on My Lock Screen?

Yes, TaskForge supports lock screen widgets on compatible devices, letting you check your tasks with a quick glance without unlocking your phone.

iOS Lock Screen Widgets

On iPhones running iOS 16 or later, you can add TaskForge widgets to your lock screen. These compact widgets show your task count or a summary of upcoming items. Lock screen widgets are perfect for a quick status check - just raise your phone and you can see how many tasks are left for today or whether you have any overdue items. Tap the widget to open TaskForge directly to the relevant list.

Android Lock Screen Widgets

On supported Android devices, TaskForge widgets can appear on the lock screen or in the at-a-glance area depending on your device manufacturer and Android version. These widgets provide the same task overview functionality, showing counts and upcoming deadlines without requiring you to unlock your device.

Quick Glance Without Unlocking

Lock screen widgets are designed for speed. You do not need to unlock your phone, navigate to an app, or wait for anything to load. The information is right there on your lock screen, updated in the background. This is ideal for those moments throughout the day when you just want to know if anything urgent needs your attention - a quick glance is all it takes.
